Third grade has been learning about Native Americans. They studied customs and survival skills. Students had to choose three items to take with them out into the wilderness and explain why they chose that item. They could choose between a knife, bow and arrows, snare, fish hook and line, pouch of acorn flour, basket, fire drill, spear, or blanket. Another writing assignment was to tell about when they went hunting and whether their hunt was successful. The final project was making a model of a shelter. This year, students made caves, long houses, or bark lodges.
