Second Grade is learning a new skill this year: Growth Mindset.
“In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.” – Carol Dweck
To accomplish this goal, second grade is learning about the physiological structure of the brain and how the brain processes information. Armed with this knowledge they are working on learning Growth Affirmations like “My Brain can Grow!” and “I control the choices I make.” This is helping our students set the stage for being in control of their own learning journey.
We are tying our Growth Mindset strategies into a larger schema of Mindfulness: helping our students pay closer attention to their physical bodies and the emotions they are experiencing. Taking these skills into our gorgeous new classical Religion Curriculum: Spirit of Truth, has provided us with the opportunity of have rich dialogues around the beautiful mysteries of our Faith.
