St. Monica Catholic School News!
From Principal Marybeth Bohm

First Day of School Mass
Our year started with 8 AM Mass then Fr. Freitag blessed each class individually and sent them on their way to their new classroom with their new teacher.  As a new member of the community, I was so touched by each message Fr. Freitag had for the classes.  He gave them each a thought to consider or challenge to work through all year to grow in faith and active participation in Mass and school.  All in attendance walked away from Mass feeling blessed.

Back-to-School BBQ Thank you!!
Thank you Kerri & Tom Larkin and Sara & Jarrod Bennett for hosting and cooking the yummy hot dogs and other treats.  Your generosity and kindness were much appreciated after our first day of school; why does the first day always make one sooooo hungry?  The BBQ was such a success as families reconnected after a long summer break.  Parents are just as excited to see their friends as our students were to see theirs.  THANK YOU!

SchoolSpeak
Parents, please log into SchoolSpeak and update all of your information (address, phone number, work phone numbers, responsible people to pick-up your child/ren, allergies, etc.).  This is necessary as we pull emergency reports from SchoolSpeak; if your child’s information is not current it could waste time in our attempt to reach you in the case of an emergency.  Thank you!!!

1st Annual Back-to-School Picnic and Movie Night
Thank you Parent’s Club for organizing such a fun event.  We didn’t let the drizzle or wind curtail the fun. We just brought the outdoor movie inside and enjoyed Moana in the gym.  Thank you volunteers, both parent and middle schoolers, for the baked goods and your time spent on Saturday night.  Hopefully we can get a few more movie nights in this next summer – when the weather is warm and we won’t be competing with Husky and Mariner games.  With all that said, I think we had a great turn out for this fun, first annual event.

School Handbook
Way to Go 5th grade!
They were the first class to achieve 100% return of handbook sign-off sheets.  All 5th graders get FREE DRESS DAY on Thursday, September 14th, NO NUT coupon needed.
THANK YOU!

Lunchtime
Please remind your children NOT to share lunch or snacks with one another – even if they think they know what is inside.  As we have students with varying food allergies we want to make sure everyone is safe while enjoying their snacks and lunch.  With all these allergies present, we are not able to be an allergen free zone. It is important that students eat what has been packed for them or what is provided from our hot lunch provider, Little Toby.  And if your child has allergies or restrictions, please remind them to not take any food from classmates or people at lunch.  We have also instituted a new lunch procedure where children will be sitting with different friends on different days and might not be aware of someone’s allergies, so it is very important that we only eat what is ours.  I know this feels counter intuitive to our Christian values of sharing with one another but their safety is important.

Save the Dates!

Pictures Needed!

Any photos taken at class, school, or athletic events are welcome to be sent as jpeg image to Pat Porter (pporter@stmonicasea.org), Regina Park (rpark@stmonicasea.org), or Caroline Gaskill (cgaskill@stmonicasea.org) for use in this year’s yearbook.  It is appreciated if photos are labeled with the grade of the students (if at all possible) or event to ensure that they are placed accordingly.  Thank you for your assistance with this endeavor.

Thank you to all of the coaches for your support of the CYO athletic program and your time and energy in helping our students develop their love of the sport and good sportsmanship!
