First Grade News

What a joy this year has been! We have been able to explore many different aspects of the world around us while learning about kindness and respect. These First Grade students walk into the classroom every morning as bright rays of light. I am so blessed to be their teacher on a daily basis.

In science, the students have been learning about the Human Body. They have been exploring the respiratory, skeletal and muscular systems. Additionally, they created life-size models of their own body with their brain, several organs and various bones and muscles. The students had a blast learning about how to keep their body healthy and using their five senses.

The First Graders have also been working extremely hard in their letter writing unit. We are Pen Pals with other First Graders at All Saints Catholic School in Spokane, Washington. The students have loved practicing their letter writing skills while creating new friendships! Additionally, my class is logging service hours for our Sparrow by writing letters to a wonderful organization, Operation Sack Lunch.  The kiddos are writing letters of encouragement to spread joy to those in need. Our letters will be placed in sack lunches served to the needy around Seattle.

On behalf of all the teachers at St. Monica, thank you for your kindness and generosity! We are excited to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. What a wonderful time to recognize our many blessings and take time to identify all the truly fabulous aspects of Catholic Schools! Thank you for your support of St. Monica Catholic School!

May God Bless,

Miss Finnerty
